GMO-free salmon production

The Atlantic salmon farmed in the Faroe Islands is not genetically modified, and feed used by the Faroese salmon farming industry is produced without genetically modified ingredients. The industry places particular emphasis on traceability and the quality and origin of feed raw materials.

This applies both to marine ingredients, such as fishmeal and fish oil, and to important plant-based ingredients. Faroese feed producer Havsbrún states that all of its feed is non-GMO, and likewise both Mowi Faroes and Hiddenfjord only use non-GM feed and are certified under recognised sourcing standards. 

This means that consumers choosing Faroese farmed salmon are choosing salmon that has not itself been genetically modified and has been raised on non-GMO feed.
