Export

Today, salmon is the Faroe Islands’ single largest export commodity. Over the past ten years, farmed salmon has accounted for between 40% and 45% of the total value of Faroese goods exports. In 2025, salmon accounted for 45.3% of the total goods export value and 48.1% of the value of fish and seafood exports.

The total export volume in 2025 was just under 112 thousand tonnes. 

The export value of farmed salmon is largely linked to the international market price for salmon, which is determined by global supply and demand, as well as the volume produced. In 2025, the export value of farmed salmon increased to DKK 6.179 billion
